About the Role
Fletcher Building prioritizes safety as a fundamental value, reflected in a 90% decline in serious injuries and a 50% reduction in recordable injuries over seven years. The Group EHS Assurance Lead will spearhead the upcoming strategic update of the safety program and oversee assurance activities across the company's varied business portfolio.
Based in Auckland and reporting to the Chief Safety & Sustainability Officer, this position plays a crucial role in shaping corporate safety strategy and enhancing performance by collaborating with Divisional Heads of EHS to ensure the wellbeing of all employees.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and lead company-wide EHS assurance initiatives and monitoring efforts.
- Maintain and update Fletcher Building's safety standards and systems to support robust reporting and assurance.
- Conduct critical risk verification, audits, exposure monitoring, and reviews of control effectiveness.
- Create comprehensive reports and dashboards to highlight key risk and assurance indicators.
- Deliver assurance findings and strategic advice to executive leadership teams.
- Stay abreast of emerging health and safety legislation, regulatory shifts, and industry trends.
- Support external assurance processes, including ISO certifications and audit programs.
- Promote knowledge sharing, mentoring, coaching, and skill development across EHS communities.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Established expertise in EHS assurance, occupational health, occupational hygiene, safety management, or related areas.
- Experience navigating large, complex, or multi-site organizational structures.
- Strong grasp of critical risk management, auditing, assurance practices, and critical control systems.
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws, standards, and leading industry practices.
- Exceptional ability to engage and build relationships with stakeholders at all organizational layers.
- Proficiency in analyzing complex data to extract actionable business intelligence.
- Proven track record in coaching, mentoring, and enhancing team capabilities.
- Familiarity with Dupont safety models, particularly the Dupont Bradley Curve, is advantageous.
- Experience operating in environments with significant influence but limited direct control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Industrial Hygiene, Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Experience supporting ISO 45001 or comparable management systems.
- At least 15 years of relevant professional experience.
