Job Overview
This position offers experienced doctors with at least 36 months of General Practice or Family Medicine experience a structured two-year pathway to specialise in General Practice in Ireland. The programme is designed to facilitate progression toward specialist recognition and registration through a combination of clinical work and educational development.
Programme Highlights
- Practice in rural primary care clinics across Ireland, providing comprehensive patient care
- Engage in self-directed study with support from the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP)
- Prepare for and complete the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and Certificate of Knowledge Test (CKT)
- Upon successful completion, qualify to apply for specialist registration on the Irish Medical Council's General Practice Specialist Register
Eligibility Requirements
- Have at least 36 months of full-time, unsupervised General Practice or Family Medicine experience
- Experience must include managing both acute and chronic conditions across all age groups, ranging from newborns to elderly patients
- Experience in diverse settings, such as cruise ship medicine, is acceptable
- Experience excluded from the 36 months includes Emergency Medicine, walk-in GP clinics, out-of-hours services, Minor Injuries Units, and GP locum positions held as secondary jobs
- Eligible for General Registration with the Irish Medical Council
- Possess strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when working in new clinical environments
