General Duties Ranger

About the Role

Join an engaging and dynamic team at Port Stephens Council, dedicated to preserving a treasured environment while balancing community needs. We have an opening for two proactive individuals to take on the role of General Duties Ranger. This position offers hands-on varied work, responding to animal complaints, performing patrols, assisting with bulky and illegal waste investigations, and educating residents about compliance with local regulations. Special emphasis is placed on parking enforcement, especially during peak holiday periods.

You will need to communicate difficult matters with empathy, manage stressful situations calmly, and apply legislation and policies confidently. The role favors outcomes focused on cooperation rather than strict enforcement where possible. Being part of a supportive, high-performing local government team, you will contribute positively to the Port Stephens community.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake regulatory and educational service delivery across multiple compliance areas.
• Respond promptly to animal-related incidents and community complaints.
• Conduct patrols and support investigations into bulky and illegal waste.
• Engage with residents to explain their obligations under local laws.
• Focus significantly on parking enforcement during busy holiday seasons.

Requirements

• Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Control) or an equivalent qualification.
• Possession of a current C Class Driver's Licence.
• Familiarity with legislation such as the Road Rules 2014, Local Government Act 1993, Roads Act 1993, and Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021.
• Experience in compliance or investigatory roles within regulatory frameworks.
• Understanding of specialised regulatory industry practices.
• Ability to successfully pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (National Police Check).

Additional Information

• Two permanent full-time positions available, working 35 hours per week on a 7-day rotating schedule.
• Based at PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace.
• Salary range $72,385 to $84,985 per annum (35 hours weekly) plus 12% superannuation and $2,562 retention allowance.
