Overview

The City of Seguin is seeking Firefighter/Paramedics committed to safeguarding residents and property by preventing and combating fires, in addition to delivering emergency medical assistance on-site during accidents or illnesses. This role involves responding swiftly to emergency alarms and calls, engaging in fire suppression activities, and contributing to maintenance of the station, firefighting equipment, and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to fire alarms and emergency situations to assist with fire suppression, rescue operations, ventilation, and salvage tasks.
  • Operate fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles safely during transit to incident sites.
  • Set up and manage supply lines, operate water pumps and related fire suppression equipment, ensuring readiness of vehicles and apparatus during emergencies.
  • Assume incident command responsibilities when required, directing other firefighting or EMS personnel, volunteers, and the public until relieved by a supervisor.

  • Physical capacity to swim, lift and handle up to 165 pounds (including equipment such as hoses, gear, air packs, ladders), climb ladders, execute CPR, and perform physically strenuous labor under challenging conditions such as smoke-filled environments and adverse weather.
  • Mental resilience to work at heights and confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to read maps accurately, maintain precise records, establish cooperative relationships with coworkers and the public, communicate effectively with individuals under stress, and uphold necessary certifications and valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to legally respond to emergency duty from residence within one hour.
