Financial Controller (Contract)

Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable Financial Controller to oversee the company's accounting activities and financial reporting, leading the transition from outsourced accounting services to an internal finance team. This role operates fully remotely from El Salvador, offers a monthly salary between $2,000 and $4,000 USD, and requires advanced English skills for professional communication. The position reports to the CFO and involves full-time work during US business hours, starting immediately on a contractor basis with potential for long-term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Take complete responsibility for the General Ledger, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with standards.
• Maintain and organize the Chart of Accounts effectively.
• Lead the process of internalizing accounting functions previously outsourced.
• Manage month-end close activities, bank reconciliations, and uphold financial precision.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for executive review.
• Analyze Profit & Loss statements and overall financial health of business units.
• Supervise Accounts Payable and Receivable operations, including invoice, payroll, expense, and vendor payments review.
• Provide leadership and oversight to the bookkeeping team.
• Oversee cash flow monitoring and manage compliance with payroll and sales tax reporting, including year-end tax filings.
• Ensure accounting practices adhere to company policies and financial controls.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and company information.

Required Qualifications

• Proven background as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant with responsibility for the full General Ledger.
• Experience handling month-end closings and financial reporting cycles.
• Proficient with QuickBooks accounting software.
• Experience supervising accounting or bookkeeping personnel.
• Strong grasp of accounting principles and internal financial controls.
• High integrity with the ability to manage confidential financial information discreetly.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote setup.
• Advanced English proficiency (C1/C2) with strong verbal and written communication capabilities.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in leading transitions of accounting functions or improving accounting processes.
• Familiarity with project accounting software like BigTime or similar tools.
• Background in professional services, construction, architecture, engineering, or design industries.
• Experience in luxury architecture, interior design, or upscale residential design firms is highly regarded.
• CPA or equivalent certification is advantageous.

Additional Information
