Role overview
This role is being shared on behalf of a partner organization, which will handle applications and all subsequent hiring steps. The hiring company is seeking an Engineering Manager - Solutions Engineering based in Ireland.
The position blends software engineering leadership, cloud infrastructure, and customer-oriented technical delivery. You will guide a distributed team of Python engineers building and improving infrastructure automation systems that support large-scale environments, including private clouds, Kubernetes deployments, and bare-metal operations. The role combines hands-on technical contribution with people leadership, so you will shape architecture decisions while also supporting the growth of individual engineers.
You will work closely with operations teams and other stakeholders to turn real infrastructure challenges into scalable, model-based solutions. This is a high-impact position where your leadership will help shape product direction, the engineering culture, and customer outcomes. You will operate in a globally distributed setting with a strong emphasis on autonomy, accountability, and engineering quality. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys developing teams as much as developing systems.
Accountabilities
- Guide, coach, and develop a distributed group of Python engineers, with a focus on performance, career growth, and strong technical standards.
- Lead the architecture, buildout, and delivery of infrastructure automation and software solutions for large-scale cloud and bare-metal environments.
- Remain hands-on in the codebase while setting technical direction and upholding high engineering standards.
- Set team goals, define execution plans, and monitor progress so the team stays aligned with broader business objectives.
- Work with product, operations, and engineering partners to influence technical strategy and delivery priorities.
- Build a culture centered on quality, including testing, documentation, performance, and reliability.
- Promote modern development practices, agile ways of working, and a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Serve as a communication bridge between teams and help maintain clarity and alignment across internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring software engineering teams, preferably in a distributed or remote-first setup.
- Strong Python development background with practical, hands-on engineering experience.
- Good working knowledge of cloud computing and modern infrastructure technologies such as OpenStack and Kubernetes.
- Experience administering Linux systems, along with exposure to storage, networking, and system operations.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including design, testing, and scalable architecture.
- Ability to combine technical depth with team leadership, coaching, and organizational alignment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in agile environments and delivering complex software incrementally.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive, ownership-driven approach to continuous improvement.
- Nice to have: experience with infrastructure-as-code, multi-cloud environments, or Go programming.
