Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned professional skilled in Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) and Environment, Governance, Sustainability (EGS) to lead on-site safety and environmental compliance for significant heavy engineering and construction initiatives. The role involves enforcing stringent EHS standards, mitigating high-risk hazards, assuring regulatory adherence, and promoting sustainability efforts at the project site.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage daily on-site safety activities across various heavy construction operations including civil works, structural assembly, and equipment installation.
  • Perform ongoing site inspections, identify hazards, and conduct thorough risk assessments like HIRA/JSA for critical operations such as working at heights, heavy lifting, confined spaces, hot works, and excavation.
  • Ensure the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system is implemented and followed meticulously.
  • Investigate all incidents, near misses, and unsafe behaviors using root cause analysis and recommend as well as enforce corrective and preventive measures.
  • Implement and oversee environmental protection protocols like waste disposal, dust and noise control, hazardous material spill prevention, and wastewater management.
  • Track and monitor sustainability indicators including carbon footprints, energy and water consumption, and sustainable resource usage on-site.
  • Support environmental audits and verify compliance with ESG governance and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with applicable safety and environmental laws and standards, such as OSHA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Factory Act, and Construction Workers Act.
  • Prepare and deliver EHS/EGS statistical reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for senior management and clients.
  • Coordinate EHS audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
  • Facilitate safety inductions, toolbox talks, and specialized EHS training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture within diverse teams and subcontractors, and serve as the principal on-site liaison for regulators, client EHS officials, and auditors.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, or Safety Engineering.
  • Certification in NEBOSH IGC or a Diploma in Industrial Safety (RLI/CLI or equivalent certified by government agencies) is mandatory.
  • Preferably possess Lead Auditor certifications for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Have between 4 to 8 years of hands-on, site-based EHS experience within heavy engineering, infrastructure, EPC, energy sectors, or large construction projects.
  • Possess in-depth technical knowledge of safety protocols related to heavy lifting, rigging, structural steel erection, earth-moving machinery, and plant equipment.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, assertive communication, conflict resolution skills, and effective management of subcontractor teams.
