Position Overview
The Educational Assistant will design and implement educational and recreational programs at designated Playground Recreation Program locations. The role involves ensuring children's safety and well-being while supporting senior staff members responsibly.
Job Nature and Conditions
This is a safety-sensitive role subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. The position is unclassified, at-will, part-time, and temporary, with employment limited to two years from the date of hire as per City policy. Primary Responsibilities
- Contribute to planning and delivering suitable educational activities fostering children's social, emotional, and cognitive growth to enhance their overall developmental skills.
- Help evaluate children’s progress and needs, consulting with relevant staff regarding any educational concerns.
- Assist in organizing indoor and outdoor settings to support developmental learning.
- Ensure a safe and healthy learning atmosphere in all environments and support managing educational materials.
- Offer guidance and assistance to program participants.
Additional Duties
- Perform the functions of a Recreation Leader as required or assigned.
- Carry out other related tasks and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, plus at least 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including a minimum of 15 non-remedial credit hours in Math and English.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License at the time of hire or the ability to obtain one before starting.
- Must obtain a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months after hire.
Work Environment
- Work settings include classrooms and outdoor areas with potential exposure to noise and communicable diseases.
- Job duties may require sustained standing, walking, sitting, and the ability to perform moderate or light lifting.
