Overview
The California Post is looking to hire a skilled Homepage Editor to join its digital news team in Pico Rivera, CA. This role centers on curating a dynamic homepage that highlights the most critical and captivating news using sharp editorial judgment and a variety of digital tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and update the homepage daily to feature the top news stories that engage and inform readers effectively.
- Utilize analytics and real-time data to steer content placement and optimize user engagement.
- Work closely with editorial teams across different sections to ensure cohesive and comprehensive news coverage on the homepage.
- Maintain expertise in digital publishing best practices as a resource within the newsroom.
- Initiate news story ideas aligned with the audience’s interests across various segments.
- Continuously monitor performance metrics and adjust story presentation to enhance reach and interaction.
- Write, edit, and report news stories as needed to support homepage content.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a fast-paced digital or breaking news editorial role.
- Proven experience with homepage programming that balances diverse news verticals effectively.
- Excellent editorial judgment combined with strong communication skills to prioritize and package stories for digital platforms.
- Hands-on WordPress proficiency and ability to work under deadline pressure within a CMS environment.
- Expertise in crafting engaging, SEO-optimized headlines for digital audiences and search engines.
- Acquaintance with SEO strategies and application of best practices to digital publishing.
- Experience with analytics tools like Parse.ly to assess and respond to content performance swiftly.
- Ability to enhance stories using visuals, multimedia, and social media to broaden audience reach.
- Adaptable team player comfortable in collaborative environments and able to work evening shifts including nights and weekends.
Additional Details
This position requires on-site presence five days per week, working on an evening schedule Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.
