Design Coordinator

Job Overview

As a Design Coordinator at Farrans Construction, you will be essential to the effective delivery of civil engineering projects. Your responsibilities will cover managing the design process from contract initiation through to project completion, ensuring design milestones are met on schedule, reviewed by the team and approved by the Client. You will support construction teams by addressing design queries and resolving issues during the build phase, and assist with the handover process.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and progress of designs from contract award to final completion.
• Direct designers with clear instructions and track their progress effectively.
• Ensure all designs are coordinated and authorized before the construction timeline.
• Review design documents to confirm compliance with standards, buildability, financial feasibility, and temporary works considerations.
• Participate in risk, opportunity management, and value engineering activities.
• Troubleshoot technical and design challenges, sharing solutions with the wider team.
• Work proactively to reduce risks related to defects, hazards, and non-compliance issues for the Contractor.
• Advise on formal protocols and workflows for information management.
• Assist with BIM implementation as per project requirements and support the BIM Manager.
• Advise and assist the Client in fulfilling their duties under CDM regulations and design development obligations.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience coordinating designs within the civil engineering sector.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary construction methods, machinery, and equipment.
• Comprehensive understanding of civil engineering project lifecycles.
• Familiarity with common contract forms such as NEC and JCT.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office, Asta Powerproject, AutoCAD, and document management systems.
• Understanding of MEICA integration within civil design frameworks.
• BIM experience and advocacy for its use in active projects.
• Degree-level education in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or closely related fields.
