Overview

The Data Scientist role involves applying sophisticated statistical, machine learning, and analytical methods to solve complex business challenges and enhance marketing, loyalty, and CRM strategies at Walgreens. Key Responsibilities

• Apply advanced data analysis techniques and tools to generate insights and actionable recommendations that support business objectives through complex statistical modeling and forecasting.
• Interpret and translate complex data into meaningful insights for business stakeholders to inform improvements in products and processes.
• Lead or assist in the development of data-driven commercial products and intellectual property.
• Conduct rigorous statistical and mathematical analyses to back business decision-making processes.
• Design and implement algorithms and predictive statistical models, choosing the best analytical methods to evaluate various scenarios and forecast possible outcomes.
• Utilize advanced statistical tools including predictive modeling, customer segmentation, survey design, and data mining for analyzing large datasets.
• Document project details comprehensively, including objectives, data processes, methodologies, algorithms applied, results, and evaluation metrics.
• Prepare explanatory materials to communicate project findings effectively.
• Resolve challenges and obstacles encountered during projects promptly and effectively.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to exchange technical information and insights related to assigned tasks.
• Present interpretations and insights derived from data analyses to internal clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree with at least two years in quantitative or computational roles, or an advanced degree in a related technical or quantitative discipline.
• Proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation.
• Experience in data science, advanced analytics, or statistics, including data interrogation, analysis, interpretation, and presenting findings to business audiences.
• Familiarity with open-source statistical/data science tools such as Python, R, or Apache Spark.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strong working relationships within cross-functional matrix environments including peers, business partners, leadership, and external clients or vendors.
• Experience in data analysis and reporting to detect trends, issues, and exceptions to help improve outcomes.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% for business-related activities, both in-state and out-of-state.

Preferred Attributes

• An advanced degree in statistics, economics, data science, applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, or related quantitative fields.
• High competency with SQL and Python or R, especially handling and analyzing large datasets.
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, experimental design, and model validation techniques.
• Experience with data preparation, feature engineering, exploratory data analysis, and visualization techniques.
• Ability to produce well-documented, reusable analytical code.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving skills coupled with strong communication abilities, adept at explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Background in marketing, customer analytics, CRM, or loyalty program analytics is advantageous.
