Job description
Position Overview
This role is accountable for the custodial upkeep of campus facilities at Northeastern State University’s Tahlequah location and includes leadership and mentorship responsibilities for junior custodial staff.
Primary Responsibilities
- Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms thoroughly.
- Perform dusting and wiping of furniture and fixtures.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff building floors.
- Empty and maintain trash receptacles.
- Secure buildings by locking and unlocking as appropriate.
- Clean classrooms and laboratory spaces.
- Manage supply loading/unloading and organize storage areas.
- Address spills and broken glass promptly and safely.
- Move and arrange furniture as needed.
- Assist in setting up for special university events.
- Report maintenance concerns to supervisory personnel.
- Execute additional assigned duties as required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of custodial materials, equipment, and public building maintenance methods.
- Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and repairing various custodial tools and machinery.
- Strong decision-making and problem resolution abilities.
- Effective communication skills.
- Consistent attendance and reliability.
Supervision and Guidelines
The Custodial Services Supervisor provides assignments with general instructions and verifies compliance through spot checks. The role aligns with university policies and procedures, entailing duties that maintain cleanliness and safety of university buildings.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position involves intermittent physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, ladder climbing, and lifting both light and occasionally heavy objects. The work environment includes indoor university buildings, stockrooms, office spaces, and outdoor locations, sometimes under adverse weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery, infectious agents, and chemicals is possible, with PPE use (masks, goggles, gloves) being necessary.
Supervisory Role
Serves as a crew leader or mentor for Custodian I staff and may assume additional supervisory responsibilities during supervisor absence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- One to two years of relevant experience or apprenticeship completion.
- Ability to obtain an Oklahoma state driver’s license appropriate for equipment operation.
Compensation and Application Details
