Job Overview
School District 60 is seeking a Custodian for Alwin Holland Elementary, located in Fort St John, British Columbia. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and general upkeep of school facilities, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and working alongside site administrative staff under the Head Custodian's direction. The work schedule consists of five hours daily, five days a week, totaling an eleven-month work year. Employment begins August 4, 2026, with a starting hourly wage of $25.98.
Primary Duties
- Clean and disinfect interior areas, including fixtures and windows; perform waste disposal, sweeping, vacuuming, and wet mopping; also undertake related exterior cleaning tasks.
- Secure doors and windows within assigned areas.
- Carry out minor repairs on doors, windows, lighting, school furniture, and other fixtures.
- Coordinate daily tasks based on priorities under the Head Custodian and site supervisors, accommodating evening usage as necessary.
- Participate in seasonal maintenance such as stripping, scrubbing, waxing floors, and cleaning furniture and walls.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Adhere to safety protocols, ensuring a safe work environment and proper operation of equipment and vehicles.
- Handle hazardous materials safely following WHMIS guidelines.
- Step in as Head Custodian when required.
- Report any vandalism or damaged equipment to supervisors promptly.
- Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned by supervisors and the Head Custodian.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent education; proof required before employment.
- Preferred minimum one year of experience in commercial or school cleaning.
- Competence in using large self-propelled auto scrubbers and window cleaning machines.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to reliable transportation may be necessary.
- Ability to comprehend written instructions and safety notices.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team and interact with the public.
- Completion of WHMIS certification and other safety training provided by the district during probationary and as-needed periods.
- Must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check before starting employment.
