Custodian

Job Summary

This position is responsible for keeping the warehouse facility clean, orderly, and safe. The work centers on routine cleaning, handling waste and recyclables, and supporting compliance with health and safety requirements. The role calls for attention to detail and a proactive mindset, along with the ability to handle physical tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep warehouse floors clean by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming on a regular basis.
• Clean and restock restrooms, break areas, and office spaces.
• Dust and wipe down surfaces and equipment to maintain a tidy, sanitary environment.
• Gather trash and recyclables and dispose of them according to local procedures.
• Monitor waste containers and recycling bins, replacing and clearing them promptly.
• Follow all health, safety, and cleanliness standards to maintain a secure workplace.
• Escalate safety risks, broken equipment, or maintenance needs to leadership.
• Track cleaning supply levels and replenish inventory when needed.
• Store cleaning tools and materials in their proper designated locations.
• Help prepare for and clean up after warehouse meetings or events.
• Carry out minor maintenance or repair tasks when required.
• Work to the expected standards for speed, accuracy, and quality.
• Keep the work area safe and organized by consistently following safety rules and reporting hazards.
• Collaborate with teammates and supervisors to support daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
• Follow all company and warehouse policies and procedures.
• Take on other duties or move into other roles or departments as needed to support operations.

Physical Requirements

This job involves long periods of standing and walking, for up to 12 hours per day. It also requires effective communication through speech, vision, and hearing, frequent use of the hands for grasping and detailed tasks, and regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching. The role includes lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling medium loads of up to 75 lbs.

Experience and Education

At least 1 year of related experience in a distribution setting is preferred, though it is not mandatory. A high school diploma or GED, or an equivalent mix of education and experience, is acceptable. No degree is required.

Work Environment

Employees in this role may work around moving machinery and vehicles. There may also be occasional exposure to temperature and humidity changes, as well as dust, fumes, and gases. The workplace is typically moderately noisy, and foot traffic through the area is normal.
