Job description
Overview
This position is for a Cost Control Engineer based on a project site in Lusail, Qatar. The role involves applying cost management methods to track and analyze expenditures, ensuring alignment with allocated budgets and supporting informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update cost control plans and project budgets.
- Monitor actual costs against budgets, analyze discrepancies, and recognize cost trends.
- Create cost forecasts and cash flow projections, emphasizing any deviations from plans.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to verify cost data accuracy and implement necessary corrective measures.
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of cost control procedures and documentation templates.
- Manage cost coding systems ensuring correct distribution of costs across work breakdown structures.
- Review committed costs, accruals, and recorded expenditures to detect variances.
- Track project performance indicators such as Cost Performance Index (CPI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), Cost Variance (CV), and Schedule Variance (SV).
- Generate key performance indicators (KPIs) that evaluate the efficiency of cost code allocation, labor productivity, resource use, and overall project performance.
- Assess costs associated with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Support change management by evaluating the financial impacts of project changes.
- Conduct risk evaluations related to costs and oversee contingency reserve allocations.
- Provide mentorship and training for junior cost engineers and contribute to enhancing cost control systems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in cost control within construction, roadworks, and infrastructure sectors.
- Strong analytical capabilities and proven ability to collaborate across multiple project teams.
- Familiarity with cost control software solutions and forecasting methodologies.
- Experience using ERP systems, specifically JD Edwards.
