Position Summary

Orion Group Life Sciences seeks a Bioinformatician for a six-month contractual appointment with a global biopharmaceutical client in Dublin, offering a hybrid working model with onsite presence required for three days weekly. This opportunity holds potential for permanent placement.

Role Overview

The appointed candidate will join a pioneering DNA research unit dedicated to advancing nucleic acid-based technologies geared toward animal identification, traceability, and population analysis in livestock and companion animals. This role integrates bioinformatics, genomics, and laboratory sciences to support cutting-edge genomic technology development while collaborating broadly across research and commercial domains.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and develop computational approaches to process, analyze, and interpret extensive genomic datasets derived from animal DNA.
• Perform analyses on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and SNP microarray data.
• Prepare and carry out quality control of sequencing libraries for NGS applications.
• Create, implement, and sustain reliable bioinformatics pipelines and workflows.
• Work collaboratively with scientists and cross-functional teams to plan experiments, interpret outcomes, and devise new research questions.
• Continuously enhance and optimize bioinformatics tools and methodologies.
• Offer technical mentorship and training across DNA operations on bioinformatics tool usage.
• Ensure precise documentation and reproducibility of analysis pipelines.
• Participate in troubleshooting and improving practices across computational and laboratory environments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Experience with sequencing library preparation for NGS platforms.
• In-depth knowledge of computational genomics and handling large DNA datasets.
• Proven ability to develop and manage bioinformatics workflows.
• Familiarity with genomic data processing, quality assurance, and result interpretation.
• Background working within multidisciplinary scientific or research teams.
• Strong organizational skills to manage diverse tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent communication abilities, both spoken and written.

Educational Background

• Possession of a postgraduate degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, or related life sciences field.
