About the Role
Join EY Malawi as an Audit Manager within the External Audit team, where you'll engage in delivering top-tier audit services, establish trusted client partnerships, and contribute to a better working environment for clients, people, and communities. This role offers the chance to lead audit engagements while applying EY's methodologies, International Financial Reporting Standards, International Standards on Auditing, and local regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete audit process including planning, execution, and reporting to ensure compliance with EY standards and international auditing regulations.
- Manage on-site audit operations by coordinating efforts between engagement teams, clients, and other EY departments for efficient delivery.
- Assess audit risks and accounting complexities, guiding teams with expert advice and escalating important issues when necessary.
- Review and validate audit work performed by team members, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to quality benchmarks before final approval.
- Resolve audit and client service challenges with practical, solution-oriented strategies.
- Identify and suggest improvements in client systems, controls, and financial practices through clear management letters and recommendations.
- Maintain strong client relationships and seek opportunities to connect clients to appropriate EY services.
People Leadership Responsibilities
- Allocate and define roles, responsibilities, and timelines clearly to optimize team efficiency.
- Mentor and develop junior staff, providing constructive feedback and contributing to their performance evaluations.
- Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across projects.
- Deliver on-the-job training to enhance audit skills, professional judgment, and familiarity with EY's methodologies.
- Foster an inclusive and high-performing team culture that supports growth and quality output.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong expertise in IFRS, International Standards on Auditing, and audit quality requirements.
- In-depth understanding of audit risk management and compliance.
- Proficient technical judgment in complex audit areas including revenue recognition, financial instruments, estimates, and taxation.
- Robust project management capabilities to handle deadlines, priorities, and engagement budgeting.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Capability to lead and manage team performance and keep leadership informed on audit progress and issues.
- Commercial insight into client industries and operational environments.
- Comfortable with audit technologies, data analytics, and digital audit methodologies.
- Fully qualified accountant with ACCA or equivalent certification.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of external audit experience, with demonstrable leadership of audit engagements and teams; prior managerial experience preferred.
- Experience auditing according to IFRS, International Standards on Auditing, and local regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with Malawi's regulatory and business environment is advantageous.
- Experience in international professional services and use of audit technology are benefits.
