Role Overview
We are seeking two full-time Assistant Psychologists (Higher Level) to join our Perinatal Mental Health Service at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. One position will be based under Croydon and Lewisham. Our service delivers evidence-based psychological therapies to women and families within South London's diverse community, focusing on various approaches such as CBT, EMDR, IPT, DBT, Systemic Family Therapy, and Parent Infant Psychotherapy.
Responsibilities
- Support practitioner psychologists in delivering specialist psychological services in Perinatal Mental Health.
- Provide clinical work within individual and group perinatal psychological therapies under supervision.
- Contribute to clinical administration, audit, data collection, research, teaching, and project work.
- Work with appropriate autonomy following clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with perinatal psychologists and psychotherapists and may assist in mentoring junior assistant psychologists.
Requirements
- Experience in clinical, audit, service evaluation, or research activities.
- Prior exposure to working with women and families during the perinatal period is preferred or strong motivation to develop expertise in this field.
- Willingness to engage in specialist perinatal supervision and continuous professional development.
Team and Service Context
The Perinatal Mental Health Teams provide secondary care for individuals experiencing severe and complex mental health issues from pregnancy up to 12 months postpartum, including mood, anxiety, psychotic, personality, and eating disorders. The multidisciplinary team includes psychiatry, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, and nursery nursing. Strong collaboration exists with maternity services, health visiting, social services, and the Mother-Baby Unit at Bethlem Royal Hospital.
Location Details
The main Trust headquarters is at Denmark Hill with excellent transport links and vibrant local amenities. The Bethlem Royal Hospital is situated in Bromley, set within extensive green spaces, with good road access, free parking, and nearby train stations.
