Role Summary
As a vital part of the Housekeeping team aboard Viking's Ocean ships, the Assistant Chief Housekeeper aids the Executive Housekeeper in managing various housekeeping operations. This role ensures smooth daily functioning of the Housekeeping Department and reports directly to the Executive Housekeeper.
Key Duties
- Maintain and monitor stock levels of housekeeping supplies in all relevant lockers, guaranteeing adequate provisions for Stateroom Hosts.
- Organize scheduled general store item collection and accurately distribute items across lockers in designated areas.
- Prepare and submit weekly general supply requisitions for approval.
- Ensure all housekeeping logs are signed and current; oversee special cleaning tasks such as curtain cleaning, carpet shampooing, furniture maintenance, and shower head sanitation.
- Conduct routine inspections of guest staterooms, public spaces, corridors, and lockers to verify compliance with company standards and safety protocols, promptly addressing and reporting any damages or malfunctions.
- Deliver exceptional guest comfort and service, upholding flawless cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with Viking's STAR Service Standards and Public Health Policies.
- Manage housekeeping service activities based on guest flow and ship events including embarkation, disembarkation, sea days, and more.
- Lead and support direct reports through performance evaluations, disciplinary actions when necessary, ensuring adherence to Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) regulations, onboard training, succession planning, crew communication, and employee recognition.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum one year of shipboard or premium hospitality experience in a similar role with proven leadership of multicultural teams.
- Fluent English communication skills, capable of effectively conveying a range of information orally.
- Guest-centric and service-minded with a positive demeanor, professional appearance, and outstanding hygiene standards.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and coach teams effectively.
- Exceptional attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Competent administrative skills including proficiency with PC-based databases, spreadsheets, and word processing tools.
- Proven ability to manage stress effectively and thorough knowledge of Public Health and Sanitary policy compliance.
Employment Conditions and Standards
Employees must comply with Viking’s appearance policies, specifically regarding visible tattoos, which are generally not permitted. Concealed tattoos using makeup or sleeves are still considered visible under company standards, with rare exemptions granted case-by-case.
