Role Overview
The Youth Tutor position, based on-site at the Manukau campus, is a full-time, permanent role focused on delivering engaging, practical instruction to Level 2 Youth Guarantee learners. This role emphasizes fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every student is welcomed and encouraged to thrive. Through high-quality teaching, mentorship, and pastoral care, the tutor helps learners build confidence, acquire practical skills, and successfully move on to further education.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement creative, hands-on lessons aligned with course objectives.
- Track student progress and provide prompt assessment and constructive feedback.
- Develop strong partnerships with support services and community organizations.
- Maintain precise learner records ensuring compliance with NZQA standards.
- Contribute toward the enhancement and continuous development of the program.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering youth, capable of creating motivating and relevant learning experiences that foster skill and confidence building. Approachable and organised, they can establish constructive relationships with students while upholding high expectations within a supportive classroom environment.
- Extensive experience working with young people.
- Background in teaching, coaching, mentoring, or training is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to engage and inspire learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational skills with administrative proficiency.
- Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching methodologies.
- Experience teaching youth or adult learners in a tertiary or related setting is preferred but not mandatory.
