Transmission L1 Engineer / Transmission NOC Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Transmission L1 Engineer / Transmission NOC Engineer to operate from our Doha, Qatar location. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and managing the transmission network to ensure maximum availability and reliability.

Key Duties

• Continuously monitor network alarms using NMS and EMS tools around the clock.
• Detect network incidents, faults, and performance degradations affecting services.
• Perform initial alarm correlation and prioritize issues based on their impact on services.
• Track events such as node or link failures, path outages, LOS, LOF, interface instabilities, power-related alarms, and signal degradations.
• Log and escalate incidents and tickets for all alarms impacting customers, ensuring correct classification by severity, location, service type, and technology.
• Keep ticketing systems up to date with timestamped progress details and ensure incident acknowledgement and assignment within prescribed SLA periods.
• Utilize SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge bases to conduct preliminary fault analysis, including verifying alarm persistence, flapping behavior, and dependencies between services.
• Carry out basic diagnostic checks, such as alarm acknowledgments, link status validation, interface and bandwidth verifications, monitoring power and environmental conditions where feasible, and reachability inspections.
• Timely escalate unresolved or urgent issues to level 2 engineers or shift leads, coordinating with field, fiber, power, and vendor teams following the escalation protocol, especially for high priority incidents.
• Communicate promptly with all relevant stakeholders during outages, maintain conference calls during major disruptions, and work collaboratively for network restoration.
• Provide clear and comprehensive handover notes during shift changes.
• Strictly adhere to operational procedures, SLAs, incident documentation, shift management, and audit obligations.
• Prepare and maintain detailed incident and outage reports, daily logs of significant alarms and faults, and identify recurring problems for escalation to senior teams.

Technical Skills Required

• Sound foundational knowledge of telecommunications transmission technologies such as SDH, DWDM, Microwave, and Ethernet/MPLS Transport.
• Basic familiarity with fiber-optic network concepts.
• Experience in alarm management and usage of NOC tools.
• Understanding of incident handling protocols and escalation procedures.
• Proficiency with EMS and NMS platforms for network monitoring.
• Awareness of common transmission fault indicators, including LOS, LOF, RDI, AU/VC alarms, link and path downs, optical signal degradations, power alarms, and interface downtimes.
