About the Role
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is seeking a Transmission L1 Engineer to join its office in Doha, Qatar on a full-time basis. TCS is a leading IT services and consulting organization with expertise in business, technology, and engineering solutions, serving global enterprises for over five decades. This position involves working within a Transmission Network Operations Center (NOC) handling transmission network monitoring and fault management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor transmission network alarms via NMS and EMS tools across all shifts.
- Identify network incidents including alarms, faults, and performance deterioration.
- Conduct primary alarm correlation and prioritize based on potential service impact.
- Track issues like node or link downtime, path failures, LOS/LOF conditions, power alarms, and transmission quality degradation.
- Create incident tickets for all alarms affecting customers, and categorize them by severity, region, and technology.
- Update ticketing systems promptly with time-stamped actions and ensure acknowledgment and assignment within set SLA timelines.
- Perform initial fault analysis using standard operating procedures, including validation of alarm persistence, interface status, bandwidth, power/environment verification, and reachability checks via monitoring systems.
- Escalate unresolved critical alarms to Level 2 engineers or shift leads according to escalation procedures and coordinate with field, fiber, power, and vendor teams.
- Communicate status updates during incidents to all relevant stakeholders and support major outage bridge calls as needed.
- Adhere to SLA requirements, maintain incident documentation, support shift governance, and ensure queue management and timely closure of tickets.
- Generate incident summaries, outage reports, and daily logs for recurring issues, aiding in management information system (MIS) reporting and chronic issue identification.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
- Foundational knowledge of telecom transmission technologies such as SDH, DWDM, Microwave, Ethernet/MPLS Transport, and fiber networks.
- Experience with alarm and fault management including LOS, LOF, RDI, AU/VC alarms, link/path down events, optical degradation, power failures, and interface issues.
- Familiarity with network operations center tools like EMS and NMS monitoring platforms.
- Understanding of incident management processes and escalation workflows.
