Overview

Join the RAC as a Superflex Roadside Patrol Mechanic and enjoy a role that values your flexibility and expertise. This position offers a dynamic work environment providing roadside assistance to members in the Reading area and nearby locations such as Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames, Crowthorne, and Sandhurst.

Work Schedule and Location

You will work approximately 40 hours per week throughout the year, receiving your schedule in advance—seven days before the week starts, with core hours confirmed three days prior. Shifts occur between 06:00 and 02:00, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Work is organized locally, allowing you to start and finish in your own home area.

Equipment Provided

You will receive your own RAC van, fuel card, complete uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic equipment to support you from day one.

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • Either hold an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or an equivalent qualification) plus at least two years of relevant experience,
  • Or possess a minimum of five years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician or Mechanic.
  • Must have a valid UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.

Role Expectations

This role calls for a highly adaptable individual who excels in fast-paced, changing conditions. You will be operating as a problem solver and ambassador for RAC, proficient at fault diagnostics and repairs ranging from flat tyres to battery issues. You will manage your own equipment, maintain vehicle stock levels, and accurately handle reporting duties. Your work will directly contribute to safely and efficiently getting members back on the road.
