Role Overview
This position is for a Solutions Architect based in Auckland, New Zealand. The role calls for someone who can shape enterprise-wide architecture across data, cloud, and AI-driven transformation programmes, especially within energy trading, wholesale electricity and gas markets, demand forecasting, customer operations, and billing.
What You Will Do
- Direct enterprise and solution architecture work across major transformation programmes spanning data, cloud, and AI.
- Evaluate proposed changes to understand their effect on the wider technology environment and their fit with long-term strategy.
- Judge whether requested capabilities can be delivered within the current mix of cloud, on-premises, and middleware platforms.
- Work with business leaders to rank technology initiatives by business value, delivery speed, and architectural soundness.
- Spot technical, data, and functional gaps that create delays or operational blockers.
- Create and compare solution options such as build versus buy and cloud versus modernization, including cost, risk, and performance trade-offs.
- Lead discussions between business and technology stakeholders to reach the right technical direction.
- Present architectural recommendations and associated trade-offs to steering committees and decision-makers.
- Complete solution blueprints, data models, and integration diagrams using tools such as ArchiMate and Visio.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate brings deep architecture experience and strong exposure to transformation delivery, governance, and stakeholder management. The role also expects familiarity with energy and utilities, enterprise platforms, and modern data and integration patterns.
- Strong background in enterprise and solution architecture, supported by TOGAF certification.
- Hands-on experience delivering end-to-end architecture in IT transformation programmes, with Agile and project management exposure.
- Good understanding of the energy and utility sector, including current industry trends.
- Experience with ERP, CRM, billing systems, and newer technologies such as AI.
- Ability to assess technology stacks, operating models, and SDLC practices to define target-state landscapes.
- Practical knowledge of data architecture, including DWH, MDM, and big data.
- Experience designing integration landscapes using EAI, ESB, and APIs.
- Ability to architect business solutions such as CRM, portals, and ERP platforms.
- Exposure to regulatory and governance architecture topics such as digitalization, OSS risk, and API governance.
- Proven success in large-scale modernization programmes across different industries.
- Experience in sustainable energy production is preferred.
- Strong ability to work with stakeholders and shape technology-enabled business roadmaps.
