Sergeant - Armory and Key Control at Lee Correctional Institution

Position Overview

This role involves management and safeguarding of all keys, locks, and armory equipment at Lee Correctional Institution. The appointed sergeant will ensure issuance of keys from a centralized control point and secure storage practices aligned with institutional security protocols.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate a single control point for issuing keys.
• Store keys securely, maintaining awareness of security protocols and procedures.
• Oversee accountability, upkeep, and protection of institutional keys, locks, and armory materials.
• Maintain master inventory records, conduct regular audits, and ensure adherence to agency issuance and storage policies.
• Regulate access to key and armory zones, keep detailed logs, and liaise with main control operations.

Training Requirements

Mandatory completion of an eight-week Basic Training program conducted by the South Carolina Department of Corrections upon employment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent alongside relevant work experience.
• At least 18 months of experience in corrections, security, military, or police work.
• A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related discipline may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Completion of SCDC Training Academy certification and basic supervisory course within six months of position commencement.
