Role Summary

As a Senior Staff or Staff Backend Engineer within the Security Infrastructure team, you will architect and build crucial platforms enabling Coupang to safeguard and enhance customer trust during rapid expansion. Your primary focus will be on our dynamic authorization engine, a vital system that detects and mitigates potential malicious activities, protecting both customers and our organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and iterate on customer authentication and authorization platforms collaboratively in a skilled, compact team.
• Engage cross-functionally to comprehend departmental current and future technology needs to guide platform direction.
• Employ systemic thinking to develop scalable technical solutions aligned with strategic goals and immediate requirements.
• Exhibit exemplary architectural and system design skills to ensure resilient and scalable backend services.
• Contribute hands-on development to critical infrastructure components, primarily through backend APIs crafted in Java and Go.
• Champion platform adoption among internal teams by prioritizing tasks effectively and fostering a culture of urgency.
• Investigate complex system issues deeply, continuously striving to enhance operational excellence.
• Lead by example, mentoring engineers and cultivating a positive team culture.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• At least 8 years of professional software development experience, or 6 years if holding an advanced degree.
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing technical projects.
• Proficient coding skills in one or more of C++, Java, and Go.
• Recent experience in designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven history of delivering mission-critical systems.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong knowledge of cloud application architecture, API design principles, scalability, and performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or similar fields.
• Familiarity with security protocols including OIDC and OAuth2.
• Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems such as identity providers and role-based access control.
• Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, gRPC, and Istio.
• Background in building cloud-based high-availability, low-latency systems.
• Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities in dynamic environments and lead large-scale service delivery.
