About the Role

Join the Department of Conservation as a Senior Master Data Steward and lead the governance and integrity of the organisation's financial master data. You will serve as the key functional expert working collaboratively with Finance, Procurement, systems, and business units to shape data governance frameworks, maintain high data quality, and optimize business decisions that support conservation efforts.

This position focuses on managing supplier, customer, chart of accounts, cost centre, and procurement data within a structured governance environment. You will influence improvements, lead complex data management processes, and build capability across the organisation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead financial master data governance, ensuring compliance with organisational policies, legislative mandates, audit standards, and internal controls.
  • Manage complex master data requests and approvals, offering expert judgement on sensitive cases and acting as the escalation point for data issues.
  • Monitor and analyse data quality metrics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improving controls, processes, and system functionality.
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, system owners, and stakeholders to foster process enhancements, system upgrades, and consistent stewardship methodologies.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to Master Data Stewards and stakeholders to elevate organisational data management capabilities.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong grasp of data governance frameworks, internal control mechanisms, risk management, and data quality concepts.
  • Proven track record managing master data lifecycle including creation, maintenance, quality assurance, governance, and secure disposal.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve intricate data challenges with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in influencing cross-functional teams and driving improvements across systems and processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills capable of managing multiple competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities to build effective relationships at every organisational level.
  • Sound understanding of financial processes, financial master data, and associated business systems.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA or equivalent ERP systems is desirable.

The Finance Directorate safeguards the Department's financial health through strategic financial management, planning, monitoring, and reporting activities.
