Job description

Role Overview

The Senior Group Payroll Specialist will oversee full-cycle payroll operations across several entities in Ireland and the UK. This role sits within the finance department and demands in-depth knowledge of payroll regulations in both jurisdictions, stellar stakeholder engagement skills, and a focus on continuous enhancements. There is an opportunity to progress into a Group Payroll Manager position.

Working Arrangement

Hybrid work location options include Athenry, Co Galway, and Maynooth, Co Kildare, with onsite presence required three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end management of weekly and monthly payrolls for multiple companies ensuring accuracy and completeness along with preparation of payroll reports including hour analyses.
  • Administer payroll taxes and benefits in kind reporting via Revenue Online Service and HMRC; handle pension contribution submissions for all entities in Ireland and the UK.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to optimize data gathering processes.
  • Maintain payroll and tax journal entries in the financial ERP, conduct month-end reconciliations, and prepare reports for CSO and National Statistics.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance payroll procedures in coordination with HR and Finance, including supporting potential implementation of new timesheet software.
  • Serve as the main contact point for payroll and tax inquiries.
  • Oversee employee expense management ensuring adherence to company policies and tax regulations.
  • Conduct necessary audits including payroll-related statutory external audits and internal Benefit in Kind reviews throughout the year.
  • Manage year-end payroll processing and related software updates.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of comprehensive payroll processing experience, preferably in a mid-to-large scale corporate or payroll bureau environment; construction sector experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Possession of an accredited payroll qualification such as IPASS is essential.
  • Proficient with Irish and UK payroll software and competent in intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory payroll regulations including Revenue and HMRC deductions, salary sacrifice schemes, and payroll taxes.
  • Strong organisational capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, effective communicator and relationship builder, self-driven, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Valid, clean Irish or EU driving licence.
  • Eligible to legally work in Ireland.
