Our Data & Analytics teams are key contributors to this mission. We have an opening for a Senior Data Engineer based in Auckland to join our dynamic team.
Role Overview
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, constructing, and maintaining top-tier data solutions that support trustworthy insights throughout ASB. You will work collaboratively in an agile setting, developing scalable data pipelines and platforms, while closely partnering with stakeholders to align data solutions with business objectives.
What You Will Do
- Lead the creation, enhancement, and upkeep of data pipelines and engineering workflows.
- Develop dependable, scalable, high-quality data solutions utilizing contemporary data engineering methodologies.
- Seek opportunities for automation, process simplification, and standardisation.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand needs and deliver appropriate data solutions.
- Implement software engineering and site reliability practices to enhance data quality and system performance.
- Contribute to establishing engineering standards, thorough documentation, and best practices.
- Mentor fellow team members, promoting skill growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Drive continuous improvement in data platforms, processes, and operational methods.
- Ensure compliance with ASB’s risk management, governance, and control policies.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or managing large data platforms.
- Proficient in SQL and Python, including optimizing queries and deploying solutions into production environments.
- Familiarity with data integration techniques, continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), and modern data architecture frameworks.
- Preferably experienced with cloud-native technologies, streaming data processing, or containerisation tools.
- Strong grasp of data structures, data modelling concepts, and engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical teams and business stakeholders effectively.
- Proactive mindset with an emphasis on quality, continuous improvement, and timely delivery.
- Understanding of risks, security implications, and governance in data environments.
