Role Overview
The Senior Arbitration Counsel position requires leading and managing sophisticated arbitration cases at domestic and international levels, mainly concerning commercial and construction disputes. Duties involve advising clients on arbitration strategies, drafting and reviewing arbitration contracts and clauses, preparing pleadings, witness statements, and submissions, and advocating for clients before arbitral tribunals and relevant court proceedings. Coordination with international counsel and partner firms, oversight of case timelines and procedural processes, management of evidence compilation, and performing legal research are also key aspects. The role additionally includes mentoring junior legal staff, developing internal precedents and knowledge bases, and aiding business development relating to arbitration and dispute resolution.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Expertise in arbitration and dispute resolution, including proficiency with leading institutional rules such as ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, dealing with cross-border commercial and construction disputes.
- Strong skills in legal analysis, drafting, and advocacy with capacity to produce detailed pleadings, opinions and procedural documents in English.
- Experience with litigation or court proceedings related to arbitration, including enforcement of awards, setting aside, and interim relief matters.
- Client advisory experience in key sectors aligned to the firm—construction, banking and finance, corporate transactions, TMT, or intellectual property.
- Excellent communication, negotiation capabilities, and client relationship management, working effectively within multicultural teams and with international law partners.
- Law degree from an accredited university, licensed to practice in a relevant jurisdiction, with prior experience in established law firms or corporate legal departments.
- Proven ability to supervise junior lawyers, handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and uphold rigorous professional and ethical practices.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional languages such as Arabic are advantageous.
- Prior professional experience within the Middle Eastern legal environment is preferred.
