Safety Officer

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Safety Officer to oversee fire protection system maintenance projects within industrial, oil and gas facilities in Qatar. This role requires ensuring maintenance operations comply fully with client health, safety and environment (HSE) standards, Permit to Work (PTW) protocols, and relevant safety regulations.

Experience and Expertise

• At least five years of HSE experience in construction, maintenance, or industrial oil & gas facility environments.
• A minimum of three years supporting HSE activities specifically related to firefighting and fire protection system projects, including installation, inspection, testing, or maintenance.
• Practical knowledge in maintaining various fire protection systems such as fire alarm, sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps, deluge, clean agent suppression, foam systems, and portable extinguishers.
• Experience overseeing adherence to Permit to Work systems, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Work Procedures.
• Background working according to client HSE guidelines in industrial settings, utilities, or sizable infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure safety compliance during all fire protection maintenance activities.
• Guarantee that all work aligns with approved PTW, risk assessments, and company HSE procedures.
• Perform regular HSE inspections and safety audits to maintain high safety standards.
• Participate in reporting and investigating incidents to determine root causes and suggest corrective measures.
• Lead safety discussions, toolbox talks, and foster a culture prioritizing proactive safety awareness.
• Ensure full compliance with client regulations, organizational policies, and statutory safety standards.
• Collaborate closely with maintenance personnel and client representatives to promote safe work execution.

Qualifications and Certifications

• Diploma in Fire & Safety Engineering or Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline.
• Mandatory: NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC).
• Preferred certifications include IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Working Safely, First Aid & CPR certification, and Fire Warden/Fire Safety Training.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of fire protection systems and their associated maintenance tasks.
• Familiarity with NFPA standards applicable to fire protection.
• Good understanding of Permit to Work systems, Job Safety Analysis, and Last Minute Risk Assessments.
• Ability to conduct thorough safety audits, inspections, incident analysis, and safety training sessions.
• Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
