Role Summary
The Safety Officer will oversee onsite activities to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. This role involves enforcing approved HSE plans, procedures, risk controls, and client-specific requirements across construction projects in Saudi Arabia. The Safety Officer actively supports accident prevention, enhances workforce safety awareness, ensures regulatory compliance, manages incident reporting, and facilitates prompt resolution of unsafe conditions and behaviors.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular safety inspections on site and immediately flag unsafe behaviors, hazardous conditions, or breaches of HSE protocols.
- Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment usage, safe work practices, and site access control policies among workers and subcontractors.
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, briefings, and awareness sessions for employees and subcontractor staff.
- Assess and monitor risk assessments, job safety analyses, method statements, and permit-to-work documentation before initiating high-risk tasks.
- Supervise high-risk construction activities such as excavation, lifting, scaffolding, hot work, confined space entry, electrical work, and work at height.
- Document and report incidents, near misses, property damage, and environmental incidents; assist with investigations and follow-up corrective actions until closure.
- Inspect emergency response equipment, fire extinguishers, access routes, welfare amenities, and first aid arrangements; support emergency preparedness drills.
- Maintain comprehensive HSE inspection records, training logs, observations, incident statistics, and safety reporting on daily, weekly, and monthly bases.
- Collaborate closely with project management, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to address HSE concerns and elevate site safety performance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least two years of experience as a Safety Officer within construction project environments.
- Mandatory OSHA certification.
- NEBOSH certification is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of construction hazards, risk evaluation, permit-to-work systems, emergency procedures, and incident documentation.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written, with effective communication and reporting abilities.
