Rotational Clinical Pharmacist

Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our dynamic pharmacy team at Band 6 or Band 7 grade, with placement depending on experience. Those recruited at Band 6 will have access to a structured, competency-led development program aimed at advancing them to Band 7.

The Pharmacy Department at The Christie is forward-thinking and innovative, boasting close partnerships with the University of Manchester along with a growing catalogue of collaborative research projects. Role Contributions

The clinical pharmacists here play progressively advanced clinical roles, many acting as independent prescribers in outpatient settings. We are actively expanding pharmacist-led prescribing services to align with contemporary cancer care models.

Key responsibilities include delivering a high-quality, patient-centered clinical pharmacy, medicines preparation, and drug supply service ensuring safety, effectiveness, timeliness, and efficiency. You will support and professionally supervise pharmacy services, participate fully in aseptic medicine preparations, and be empowered to act as the Accountable Pharmacist in aseptic services when required.

Engagement in departmental quality systems is essential, ensuring adherence to statutory laws and professional standards to maintain safe working conditions. Additionally, you will contribute specialist insights to clinical trials and assist in evaluating new products, equipment, and methods, supporting service innovation especially within the Aseptic Services Unit.

Education and training provision regarding medicines to patients and multidisciplinary healthcare workers are also a crucial part of the role.

Work Environment and Additional Information

The primary workplace is The Christie Hospital main site, but flexibility to work across Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network facilities is expected. The Trust supports flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of partial remote working pending service requirements.

The Christie is a leading European cancer center treating over 60,000 patients annually and serving 3.2 million people across the region. Additionally, it functions as a national specialist center with around 15% of patients coming from other UK regions. The hospital supports extensive radiotherapy, chemotherapy, specialized surgery, and a broad spectrum of diagnostic and support services. It is also recognized internationally for cancer research, including housing one of Europe's largest early clinical trial units with over 300 trials yearly.
