Job description

Position Overview

ODS Engineering seeks a Quantity Surveyor based in Dundrum, County Tipperary. Reporting to the Estimating Manager or Commercial Manager, this role focuses on supporting project management post-tender by overseeing commercial and cost controls, including budgets, payment claims, valuations, variations, and final accounts, as well as payment follow-ups. The candidate will also assist with material take-offs and obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit payment claims, valuations, and final accounts for projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and commercial teams to control costs and manage contract variations.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, main contractors, engineers, architects, and quantity surveyors.
  • Source quotations and cultivate good relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop and update accurate project budgets, monitoring costs through project lifecycles.
  • Track and report financial expenditure ensuring adherence to project budgets.
  • Work closely with design teams and project managers to ensure all extras and variations are costed and promptly communicated to clients.
  • Coordinate regularly with the Commercial Manager, Estimating Manager, and Sector Project Managers.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in construction or engineering sectors; familiarity with structural steel, cladding, and modular buildings is advantageous.
  • Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Skilled in interpreting, analyzing, and extracting quantities from engineers' and architects' drawings.
  • Experienced in cost control and cost planning strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Eager to learn and adapt within a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
