Overview
This Project Manager role based in Austin, TX is offered under a long-term contract through the FAST contract. The position involves senior-level oversight, focusing on complex, large-scale enterprise projects. The role demands planning, guiding, and coordinating various project elements such as scope, timeline, cost, risks, and stakeholders across multiple teams for consistent alignment with organizational goals and methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Create and update detailed project plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, risks, and communications.
- Set clear project goals, expected outputs, milestones, and success measures in partnership with stakeholders.
- Lead coordination among diverse teams, vendors, and internal business units to maintain project alignment and progress.
- Keep track of project milestones and performance, ensuring prompt identification and management of risks and issues.
- Conduct stakeholder engagement, lead meetings, and provide transparent project status communications.
- Implement and control project scope changes through formal change management processes in accordance with governance standards.
- Supervise vendor deliverables and performance where third-party contractors are involved.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Public Safety policies, state purchasing mandates, and FAST contract rules.
- Manage comprehensive project documentation, status reporting, and administrative tasks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead project closure including final reporting, confirming deliverable acceptance, and documenting lessons learned.
Qualifications
- Over 8 years of experience in overseeing significant IT or business transformation projects.
- Expertise in PMI/PMBOK, Agile, and Hybrid project management frameworks.
- Skilled in developing schedules, managing budgets, and planning resource allocation.
- Adept at handling multiple stakeholders across business and technical teams.
- Experience with risk and issue management as well as controlling changes.
- Strong communication skills, including preparing reports for executive audiences.
- Familiarity with MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar project management software tools.
- Understanding of governance requirements, organizational policies, and procurement processes.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in public sector or government settings, especially in public safety or law enforcement.
- Familiarity with projects governed by state procurement contracts such as FAST or DIR.
- Possession of PMP certification or an equivalent credential.
- Experience managing IT system rollouts, enterprise software, or data-centric solutions.
