About Our National Conversation (ONC)
Our National Conversation (ONC) is dedicated to minimizing partisan divides and encouraging effective solutions to America's pressing issues. Empowered by the energy and insights of American youth, ONC operates as a media platform, produces educational resources, and fosters dialogue aimed at improving the country with the motto "Less Hate, More Debate."
Role Overview
As a Progressive Writer Intern, you will contribute meaningfully to ONC's mission by crafting political content, including high-quality opinion editorials and policy proposals, aligned with the organization's commitment to ideological diversity, nonpartisanship, and civil discourse. You will write on a variety of important topics including Governance, Economics, Infrastructure, Healthcare, Foreign Policy, Defense, Justice, Public Safety, Social Issues, Science, Environment, and Technology.
This position functions primarily in a remote environment, coordinating via Zoom and Slack, requiring strong communication skills and flexibility. Although participation in weekly podcast sessions is optional, an interest in occasional involvement is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute regularly to ONC's website through the production of well-crafted, ideologically balanced written content.
- Ensure every published work exhibits ONC’s dedication to nonpartisanship and respectful debate.
- Engage in podcasts, organizational events, and additional tasks as requested.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Pursuing or holding education in Political Science, Journalism, English, Literature, Public Policy, Media Studies, International Relations, or related disciplines.
- Exemplary written communication skills in English are essential.
- Strong verbal communication abilities are a favorable asset.
- Dependable, responsive, and clear communication, even under challenging situations.
- Previous experience with policy research, political commentary, political science, or a related field preferred.
- Capacity to effectively manage time and workload in a remote setting to meet deadlines.
- Availability to attend the mandatory weekly (Friday) Core Content Department meetings.
- Authorization to intern legally within the United States is required.
