About ProjectArt
ProjectArt is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to building the largest art school in the U.S. without owning physical buildings. It activates public libraries as dynamic cultural centers through artist residencies, where contemporary visual artists offer free after-school art classes to underserved youth while creating new artworks in the library setting.
Role Overview
The Program Manager for New York City and Newark is responsible for managing the organization’s local program portfolio. Working part-time and reporting primarily to the Director of Programs and the Director of Residency, with occasional interaction with the Executive Director, this role serves as ProjectArt's frontline presence in these locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as ProjectArt’s on-site representative in New York City and Newark under the guidance of the Executive Director.
- Engage and collaborate with art galleries, cultural institutions, and community partners to expand ProjectArt’s visibility, promote artists’ and students’ work, and cultivate meaningful, sustainable partnerships.
- Manage the artist residency program and all related art classes within New York City and Newark.
- Recruit, hire, train, and lead Resident Artists in the area.
- Coordinate with library partners to resolve program-related issues and ensure well-organized annual student exhibitions.
- Facilitate student recruitment for ProjectArt programs by visiting libraries and local schools.
- Guarantee that all classes are effectively taught, attendance is maintained, and regular evaluations are conducted.
- Collect and process biweekly payroll hours for teaching artists.
- Assist with the planning and installation of exhibitions featuring resident artists.
Qualifications
- Between three to five or more years of experience managing programs, preferably in arts education or a related field.
- A strong connection to and knowledge of Detroit’s art community.
- Proven experience collaborating with artists.
- Experience working with youth or educational settings is highly desirable.
- Capability in managing budgets and contracts is an asset.
Additional Details
- Work commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $23 per hour.
