Job description
About 1Password
1Password is rapidly expanding, having exceeded $400 million in annual recurring revenue and ranking four consecutive years on the Forbes Cloud 100. We collaborate with top partners such as Oracle Red Bull Racing. Our mission is to enable employee productivity securely by ensuring trusted identities, application sign-ins, and devices. As pioneers of Unified Access Management and the leading enterprise password manager, we serve over 180,000 companies worldwide, from Fortune 100 to innovative AI firms.
Role Overview
We invite skilled engineers eager to contribute to securing digital identities to join our Privacy Engineering team within Security. You will develop technical controls, automation, and tools to protect personal data across our product suite and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain agent-driven workflows supporting privacy engineering functions such as privacy review intake, data subject access requests, updating data inventories, and telemetry categorization.
- Develop AI-assisted tools enabling engineering teams to identify and address privacy risks efficiently.
- Implement privacy controls involving authorization, data scoping, data retention and deletion, consent management, and responsible data access.
- Integrate privacy tools into development workflows and platforms like CI/CD systems, code reviews, data catalogs, and ticketing services.
- Enhance the management of logs and telemetry through classification, minimization, and redaction to balance visibility and data minimization.
- Advance privacy processes by automating and scaling tasks to improve speed, uniformity, and auditability.
- Write high-quality production code with comprehensive testing and documentation, while continuously monitoring and refining deployed workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Experience delivering production-grade software in SaaS, cloud, or other complex environments.
- Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, or Go, including solid skills in testing, debugging, version control, and software design.
- Hands-on experience with large language model (LLM) systems or similar AI frameworks, including agents, multistep pipelines, or orchestration workflows.
- Experience in integrating software through APIs, databases, ticketing systems, CI/CD pipelines, or data platforms.
- Practical understanding of privacy and data-handling principles such as data minimization, access control, retention, deletion, consent, and privacy-conscious telemetry, with the ability to translate privacy requirements into technical implementations.
- Ability to independently manage clearly defined projects, collaborating well with security, engineering, product, data, legal, and privacy teams.
- Preferred: Familiarity with privacy regulations like GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, data subject rights, data inventories, third-party integrations, threat modeling, privacy reviews, prompt design, LLM output validation, reliability patterns, and AI-related privacy safeguards.
Company Culture
We value transparency, simplicity, honesty, and people-first principles. Our fast-paced, demanding environment requires individuals who thrive on challenges, seek feedback, are adaptable, curious, and focused on impact rather than routine comfort.
Use of AI
AI is integral to our engineering, product, and design processes. We employ it thoughtfully and responsibly, emphasizing human accountability and thorough evaluation before deployment. Team members are expected to engage continuously with AI advancements and responsibly apply AI in their roles.
Remote Work
As a remote-first company, we emphasize remote collaboration but require willingness to attend in-person meetings occasionally, including offsites, team meetings, and events depending on roles.
Compensation and Benefits
For Canadian-based employees, the annual base salary ranges from 111000 to 155000 CAD, complemented by health and dental plans, RRSP matching, generous paid time off, equity grants, and potential participation in incentive programs. The company commits to fair market compensation aligned with experience and skillset.
