Payroll & Accounts Specialist

About the Role

Based in Hobart, Tasmania, this role is an integral part of Marinus Link's Finance & Commercial team. As a Payroll & Accounts Specialist, you will ensure precise and compliant payroll execution while managing complete accounts payable and receivable workflows. Collaborating closely with an external managed payroll provider and internal teams, you will uphold the accuracy of financial records and spearhead continual improvements in finance processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end preparation, verification, and processing of fortnightly payrolls, complying with all applicable laws, Industrial Awards, agreements, and statutory requirements.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions including invoice processing, payment runs, reconciliation tasks, and safeguarding financial data integrity.
• Act as a subject matter expert liaising with the payroll provider and internal stakeholders to address payroll queries and ensure timely, accurate employee remuneration.
• Perform payroll reconciliations, assist with end-of-year payroll activities, and contribute to precise monthly and yearly financial statements.
• Identify and implement enhancements to payroll systems, policies, and procedural workflows to improve efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
• Foster robust relationships across departments, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Requirements

• Proven experience handling end-to-end payroll operations within a complex organizational setting.
• Relevant academic qualifications in accounting, bookkeeping, or closely related fields.
• Comprehensive understanding of Australian payroll legislation, payroll principles, Industrial Awards, and employment agreements.
• Expertise in managing accounts payable and receivable, including invoice management, payment processing, account reconciliations, and resolving discrepancies.
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with payroll providers and internal teams for financial reporting and process improvement.
• Excellent analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities with acute attention to detail.
• Outstanding communication skills and commitment to handling confidential information with utmost integrity.
• Proficient computer skills, notably intermediate Excel capabilities; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is highly valued.
