Job description
Role Overview
Cook Shire Council is on the lookout for a committed Parks and Open Spaces Labourer who loves the outdoors and takes pride in enhancing community spaces. This role involves vital maintenance and upgrade tasks across Cook Shire's parks, gardens, reserves, and recreational amenities.
Key Duties
- Carrying out general grounds upkeep such as moving materials, bush cutting, weeding, pruning, and planting vegetation.
- Maintaining playgrounds, sports fields, and various public spaces ensuring they are safe and welcoming.
- Operating small machinery and tools including tractors, mowers, blowers, chainsaws, and whipper snippers efficiently and safely.
- Assisting with streetscape maintenance, minor landscaping projects, and development activities as needed.
- Conducting inspections and promptly reporting hazards or necessary repairs to maintain public safety and facility standards.
- Collaborating within a team environment that values initiative, clear communication, and a positive approach.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in parks and open spaces maintenance or related outdoor duties is required.
- Competent and safe operation of relevant plant and equipment is essential.
- Strong work ethic with capability to function independently and as a cooperative team member.
- High emphasis on safety awareness on job sites.
- Physical fitness to work effectively under various outdoor conditions.
- Mandatory possession of a current MR Class Driver's Licence.
- Mandatory Construction White Card certification.
- Chainsaw or horticultural certificates will be considered advantageous.
Employment Details
- Location: Council's Depot, 31 Charlotte Street, Cooktown, Queensland
- Employment Type: Full-time role
- Salary: $69,678 per annum, based on Queensland Local Government Industry Award Level 2 (Stream B: Division 2, Section 5) - State 2017
- Additional Benefits: Eligible allowances applicable
- Leave: 5 weeks annual leave and 15 days personal leave annually, plus 9-day fortnight working arrangement
- Superannuation: 12% contributions by employer
