Role Overview
This position involves working under the supervision of the Head of Legal (Commercial) within a collaborative legal team at Homes England. The role offers a unique chance to develop legal skills through involvement with a variety of transactional and governance matters related to commercial contracts, helping accelerate housing projects and community regeneration across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
The paralegal will contribute to providing proactive, high-quality legal services by working closely with both internal teams and external parties. Responsibilities include managing a diverse portfolio of commercial contract work, either delivering legal advice directly or coordinating with external lawyers to secure expert counsel. The role requires multitasking in a dynamic environment and a focus on continuous process improvement and innovation.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have significant exposure to commercial contracts and be able to navigate rapid changes while maintaining motivation and energy. Essential qualities include curiosity, adaptability, commercial insight, intellectual rigor, analytical skills, and a problem-solving mindset focused on transactional challenges. Collaborative teamwork and the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders through negotiation and persuasion are crucial. Experience working within either public sector bodies or in-house legal teams is advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
- Law degree, Graduate Diploma in Law (Common Professional Exam), or CILEX qualification is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience as a paralegal with comprehensive exposure to commercial contract cycles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, excellent administrative and organizational skills; capable of prioritizing workloads to meet strict deadlines.
- Attention to detail with strong drafting abilities; excellent communication skills including diplomacy and tact.
- Experience within legal teams in fast-paced environments, handling external stakeholders, and familiarity with legal documentation and processes.
- Ability to cope with demanding, varied workloads effectively.
- Desirable but not required: experience within the public sector or in-house counsel settings.
