Occupational Hygiene Consultant

About the Role

Join an international leader to contribute your expertise in occupational hygiene and hazardous materials consultancy. As a vital member of the Hazardous Materials and Occupational Hygiene team, you will help clients anticipate, evaluate, and control workplace risks related to hazardous substances and physical dangers. Your work will play a key role in enhancing environmental health and safety standards, supporting clients' reputations and sustainability goals. This position is primarily located in Grafton, New South Wales with a hybrid work arrangement that includes remote work and frequent site visits in the Coffs Harbour region.

Responsibilities

• Carry out sampling for airborne contaminants such as respirable crystalline silica, dust, chemicals, and physical hazards like noise and vibration, advising on protective measures for worker health.
• Design asbestos monitoring and decontamination plans, including issuing clearance certifications.
• Perform site investigations, including sampling of suspected hazardous building materials and pre-demolition evaluations.
• Provide expert guidance during asbestos removal operations on-site.
• Assess indoor air quality along with mold and moisture presence, offering remediation strategies for affected buildings.
• Manage small to medium scale projects with diverse requirements.
• Contribute to business growth and strategic initiatives within the team.
• Analyse collected data and prepare technical reports and proposals under the mentorship of senior consultants and certified occupational hygienists.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, collaborative, and driven by making workplaces safer through occupational hygiene and hazardous materials expertise. Previous experience in asbestos or hazardous materials consultancy is preferred. Candidates with laboratory expertise in asbestos identification or fibre counting, as well as those with building and construction trade backgrounds, are also encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Experience assessing occupational exposure to physical, chemical, biological, or ergonomic hazards in the workplace.
• Understanding or eagerness to learn consulting and project management processes, with a proactive approach to client relationship building and service excellence.
• Desire to develop skills in technical report writing, client engagement, and project leadership.
• Possession of a valid Australian Driver's License for onsite travel.
• Holding an Asbestos Assessors License is highly favorable, indicating specialized expertise and commitment to industry standards.
