Position Overview

The Mix Room Technician plays a vital role in accurately preparing, mixing, and handling automotive paint products for primers, basecoats, and clearcoats. This role ensures paint materials meet strict OEM color, quality, and traceability standards while maintaining compliance with environmental, health, and safety protocols to support seamless production in the paint shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix automotive paints, primers, clearcoats, hardeners, and thinners by following OEM formulations, standard procedures, and production needs.
  • Measure and document critical paint properties such as viscosity, density, temperature, pot life, and shelf life.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and batch traceability of all paint materials and mixtures.
  • Operate, clean, and perform basic maintenance on Mix Room equipment including mixers, agitators, pumps, filters, and dosing systems.
  • Deliver paint materials to automated and manual spray booths punctually to avoid production stoppages.
  • Monitor paint inventory levels, implement FIFO methods, and coordinate supply replenishment with logistics.
  • Identify and segregate expired, contaminated, or non-conforming paints and report issues appropriately.
  • Follow stringent automotive environmental, health, and safety standards relating to flammable chemicals, hazardous substances, explosion risks, ventilation, and waste handling.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping and organization in the Mix Room and associated storage through 5S standards.
  • Assist quality audits and OEM assessments to ensure process compliance.
  • Collaborate with Paint Engineers, Quality, and Production teams to resolve color and surface defects or material concerns.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives focused on optimizing paint use, reducing costs, and minimizing waste.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or technical certification in Paint Technology, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial fields.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience working in an automotive paint mix room or similar automotive manufacturing setting.
  • Preferably experienced with automated or semi-automated automotive paint application systems.
  • Basic computer proficiency for managing formulations, inventory, and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is advantageous.
  • Physically capable of working in controlled settings while wearing required personal protective equipment.

Competencies and Skills

  • In-depth understanding of automotive paint systems including primer, basecoat, and clearcoat.
  • Knowledge of both solvent-based and water-based automotive paints.
  • Ability to interpret and work from paint formulations, batch sheets, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with paint mixing, dosing, filtering, and agitation equipment.
  • Familiarity with paint quality parameters such as color consistency, metallic orientation, viscosity, gloss, and contamination control.
  • Understanding of OEM paint standards and methods to prevent defects is a plus.
  • Awareness of chemical safety procedures, fire prevention, and handling of hazardous materials.

Compensation and Benefits

Lucid Motors provides a competitive comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, paid leaves and holidays, and a retirement plan with 401(k) options. Eligible employees may participate in equity ownership programs and discretionary annual bonuses based on performance, role, market benchmarks, and company results.
