Job Overview

SGS is hiring a detail-focused Microbiology Analyst - Level 1 in Mississauga, Ontario. The role involves carrying out microbiological testing, supporting daily laboratory operations, and helping maintain high-quality standards in a regulated lab environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out microbiological testing and analysis on samples using standard laboratory methods.
  • Prepare culture media, reagents, and other materials needed for testing.
  • Conduct testing for finished goods and raw materials, including MLT, bioburden, endotoxin, antibiotic potency assay, AET, sterility testing, and disinfectant studies.
  • Record laboratory work and test outcomes accurately and in detail.
  • Use and maintain lab instruments, including calibration checks and basic functionality monitoring.
  • Help improve and refine microbiological testing procedures.
  • Work with colleagues to meet deadlines and maintain quality expectations.
  • Support the upkeep of a tidy, safe, and organized laboratory.
  • Follow safety requirements and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
  • Assist with data review and interpretation of results.
  • Prepare internal and external reports and related documentation.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in microbiology or a related area is preferred; internships or academic research experience may also be considered valuable.
  • Strong command of microbiology lab methods, including aseptic technique and microscopy.
  • Hands-on familiarity with autoclaves, incubators, water baths, biohazard hoods, filtration systems, balances, and pH meters.
  • Good analytical thinking and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently while keeping records organized.
  • Exposure to laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for data handling and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of microbiology concepts and quality control practices.
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Open to learning new methods and adapting to updated techniques.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers an hourly salary of $28.00 to $33.00.
