About the Team
NHS Scotland promotes equality, diversity, and fair treatment across its workforce, with the goal of building teams that reflect society and allow every employee to feel valued and supported.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran is one of the 14 territorial NHS Boards in NHS Scotland. The organisation works to improve the health of people across Ayrshire and Arran through a culture built on care, safety, and respect.
Role Overview
An opportunity has opened for an experienced and suitably qualified Microbiology Administrative Support professional to join the Microbiology Department at University Hospital Crosshouse. This is a permanent part-time post.
The working pattern is 22.5 hours per week.
Key Duties
You will deliver a full range of confidential administrative assistance to the Microbiology Management Team, Consultant Team, and other department colleagues. The position calls for a flexible and committed approach, with a strong focus on meeting deadlines.
The role includes handling enquiries by phone and in person from all staff groups, including senior managers and consultants; filtering, prioritising, and directing queries; drafting letters; taking minutes; summarising information when needed; updating Microbiology systems with data; supporting quality audits; maintaining filing systems; and managing a variety of communications.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The successful applicant should be motivated and enthusiastic, with knowledge or experience equivalent to SVQ Level III in Business Administration.
Right to Work and Sponsorship
Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, or confirm that the role is eligible for sponsorship before applying. UK Visa and Immigration rules apply, and sponsorship depends on meeting the required criteria, including salary threshold considerations for part-time roles after pro-rating. Sponsorship is assessed individually after interview and during pre-employment checks.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran cannot provide sponsorship for Band 2 posts or bank contracts.
Application Guidance
- Applications must be submitted through NHS Jobs Scotland.
- Do not upload a CV, as it will not be used for shortlisting.
- Vacancies close at midnight on the stated closing date, and late submissions will not be considered.
- Email is the main communication method, so applicants should enter their email address carefully.
- Candidates should check their email and NHS Jobs Scotland account regularly, including junk folders.
- Support for technical issues is available through the JobTrain Candidate Support Hub.
- Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge is recommended for using JobTrain.
- Once submitted, the application cannot be amended.
- Some vacancies are restricted to internal candidates; existing staff should ensure their profile shows employment with NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
- If a role requires driving, a full UK, EU, or EEA licence is needed.
