Job Overview

The Mental Health Act presents complex challenges and remaining engaged with its intricacies is critical to this position's success and to ensuring the Trust receives a responsive and compliant service in terms of both current legislation and service needs.

The Mental Health Act Office commits to providing a service that guarantees the Trust's adherence to the Act and the associated Code of Practice. Reporting under the Senior Mental Health Act Administrator and the Deputy manager, the Mental Health Act Administrator is responsible for delivering a competent, effective, and seamless service aligned with the Act's legal requirements.

A vital factor in the role's success is the ability to form effective collaborative partnerships with both internal teams and external organizations, often involving sensitive and significant communications.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of the Mental Health Act (MHA) Annual Work Plan objectives.
  • Deliver MHA services compliant with legislative and procedural standards with minimal supervision.
  • Perform duties entrusted by the Trust Scheme of Delegation, including:
    • Processing and scrutinizing statutory forms and initiating necessary corrections per legal guidelines.
    • Offering or obtaining advice on legislative matters.
    • Ensuring all reporting obligations meet legal and organisational deadlines.
    • Providing administrative assistance for patient hearings.
    • Managing flagging systems via Excel to support clinical teams in fulfilling legislative requirements.
    • Maintaining both physical and electronic patient records to ensure accessibility and accuracy.
    • Collaborate closely with staff to ensure compliance with local and national standards.
    • Undertake completion of incident reports and facilitate sharing of lessons learned within the department.
    • Engage with external organizations relevant to the role’s responsibilities.
