Job Overview
Beaumont Hospital, located in Dublin, is inviting applications for the role of Medical Laboratory Assistant on a temporary basis within the Haematology Laboratory. This full-time position requires a commitment of 39 hours per week and reports directly to the Chief Medical Scientist or another designated manager. The salary is aligned with the Medical Laboratory Aide pay scale ranging from €42,033 to €49,050, following government pay guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Logging, labeling, centrifuging, and separating specimens, which may include data entry via computer keyboards.
- Preparing equipment, culture media, and reagents as directed by scientific laboratory personnel.
- Supporting laboratory staff in test preparation tasks.
- Handling collection, delivery, decontamination, sterilization, and washing of glassware.
- Monitoring and restocking laboratory supplies and consumables.
- Managing specimen reception, including electronic sample receipt and processing activities such as logging, labeling, centrifugation, and separation.
- Executing waste removal and ensuring proper disposal from the laboratory.
- Receiving, unpacking, labeling, and appropriately storing deliveries.
- Filing specimens, slides, and blocks systematically.
- Packaging and preparing samples for referral laboratories when required.
- Maintaining compliance with ISO15189 and EFI quality standards throughout all tasks.
- Participating in equipment cleaning and monitoring.
Additional Notes
- The duties outlined are not exclusive to Medical Laboratory Assistants and may be performed by scientific or clerical staff as necessary.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or a designated Beaumont Hospital authority.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants must meet at least one of the following:
- Prior work experience in a hospital or science laboratory;
- A minimum of twelve months' employment experience within the publicly funded Irish Health Service;
- A Quality & Qualifications Ireland Level 5 qualification or higher in Laboratory Skills.
- Candidates must possess the personal skills and capacity needed to effectively perform the duties of the role.
Desirable Attributes
- Relevant computer skills and laboratory experience are advantageous.
Additional Information
- Applicants previously employed in the Civil or Public Service should note pension abatement may apply under the Public Service Pensions Act 2012.
