Role Overview and Responsibilities
The appointed CAD Designer will be responsible for creating and reviewing CAD drawings primarily focused on industrial equipment used in combustion technology, such as burners, fuel handling systems, piping (including gas skids), and pulverizers for utility and process boilers. This role requires applying fundamental engineering principles alongside current manufacturing and fabrication methods.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Design lead and Lead Designer to develop ideas and transform sketches into detailed, functional assemblies.
- Create, modify, and correct designs using CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD (2D and 3D), AutoCAD Plant 3D, and PTC Creo.
- Ensure that all designs comply with company standards emphasizing safety, quality, and manufacturability.
- Conduct site visits for field measurements, attend project meetings, and gather data necessary for precise equipment layout and installation.
- Utilize 3D scanning technology to measure worn or existing components, enabling reverse engineering and generation of detailed drawings.
- Stay updated with standards, ISO protocols, design methodologies, CAD software developments, and advancements in computer applications.
- Properly archive project documentation in designated company databases such as DCAP.
- Familiarize with and employ specialized analysis tools to aid workload management.
- Assist in selecting suitable equipment and materials by evaluating options and recommending the most appropriate choices.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is required; possession of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is advantageous.
- Between 5 to 12 years of design experience related to boilers, pressure components, and fossil fuel power plants.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, or a comparable combination of CAD software.
- Understanding of fabrication processes and welding techniques.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of handling pressure, meeting deadlines, managing multiple projects, and responding efficiently to requests.
- Availability and willingness to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and techniques.
