Materials Manager

Position Summary

Oversee, direct, review, and participate in staff operations for material management within a designated department. Responsibilities include managing purchasing processes, overseeing fleet salvage operations, and controlling parts inventory. Ensure adherence to policies and standards while managing complex tasks related to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and evaluate staff tasks involving materials management such as purchasing, fleet salvage, and inventory control.
• Develop schedules and resource plans for providing material management services; coordinate with management for resource allocation.
• Contribute to the creation and revision of policies and procedures, monitoring compliance and recommending improvements.
• Support the implementation of organizational goals and approved policies.
• Handle technical and complex duties, including contract management and compliance monitoring.
• Manage purchasing workflows: prepare orders, receive supplies, and ensure proper inventory storage.
• Supervise fleet salvage activities, including vehicle transport and managing buy-out fees within the vehicle replacement fund to procure replacement vehicles.
• Analyze fleet and inventory demands to establish part types and quality standards; develop specifications for vehicle, equipment, and parts acquisition.
• Create and manage contracts for maintenance services and procurement of automotive/equipment parts, ensuring compliance by vendors and staff.
• Develop operational procedures covering vendor and customer relations, contract adherence, and materials management.
• Perform component failure analyses and handle warranty claim negotiations with manufacturers.
• Oversee inventory processes for equipment, tools, and materials; maintain operational condition records.
• Assess purchased equipment and materials to confirm compliance with contract standards.
• Resolve invoice and contract compliance issues; audit department expenditures.
• Participate in hiring materials management personnel; provide training; address performance issues; enforce disciplinary actions.
• Assist with inventory budget preparation, recommend budget submissions, and track spending.
• Generate reports analyzing operational activities and statistics.

Additional Functions

• Engage in professional groups to keep updated on materials management industry trends and innovations.
• Be available on a 24/7 on-call basis if required.
• Execute other related duties as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, fleet management, or transportation management from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of four years of materials management experience.
• At least two years in a supervisory capacity.

Additional Requirements

• Valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain one by hire date.
• City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months of hire.

Working Environment

Work occurs in normal office and warehouse settings, with exposure to computer screens, noise, fumes, and odors. Physical duties include light to moderate lifting, carrying, and extended periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
