Stellenbeschreibung
About the Role
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen, with over 530 employees, we strive daily to advance production processes to be more digital, flexible, and sustainable. Within our "Precision Engineering and Automation" division, our research focuses on how surface topographies affect stem cell differentiation.
This master's thesis project involves isolating and cultivating stem cells derived from eyelid tissue to develop a tissue transplant for the cornea. The central aim is to induce the differentiation of stem cells into functional corneal endothelial cells, while evaluating the effects of a biomaterial composed of bio-based proteins on this process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform isolation and culture of stem cells from skin biopsies.
- Analyze how biomaterials influence stem cell adhesion.
- Guide the differentiation of stem cells into functional corneal endothelial cells.
Candidate Profile
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic skills in aseptic techniques and cell culture are advantageous.
- Preferably, some experience with standard cell characterization methods such as PCR, FACS, or immunofluorescence.
- Demonstrate an independent working style and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Proficiency in German and/or English.
What We Offer
- Engagement with a contemporary and practically significant scientific topic.
- Professional supervision and expert support during your thesis work.
- Opportunity to contribute to innovative research and development projects.
Diversity and Inclusion
We value and encourage diverse competencies among our staff and welcome applications regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, worldview, disability, sexual orientation, or identity. Individuals with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified. We aim to find solutions that best support applicants with disabilities in their skills development.
